Trade associations sit at the heart of industry and play a key role in standards development; from helping to write them through membership on our committees to encouraging their adoption by industry.
It is therefore important that BSI builds strong relationships with trade associations to ensure UK business are fully represented in the standards development process. One way in which we have sought to do so is through ensuring that members of trade associations have easy access to the standards they need.
In a unique service offered to the (MTA), members can view up to ?10,000 worth of industry relevant standards at no cost.
MTA is a UK trade association representing the manufacturing technologies industry. Sitting at the core of the engineering-based manufacturing sector, the association works hard to promote the commercial success of its member companies. They support their members in the advanced engineering sector through lobbying, media contact, networking and activities.
MTA has a large representation across a number of our committees, which reflects the diversity of the manufacturing industry and MTA’s membership. MTA’s members provide vital expertise to assist our standards development committees and play an active role in helping to shape the standards for the manufacturing and technology sector.
This partnership between MTA and BSI generates a huge cost saving for MTA members and allows them to benefit from easy access to the most up-to-date standards to help them to do better business.
All fully accredited members of the MTA are able to access read-only standards applicable to their industry via BSI’s portal (BSOL). This is a simple and easy-to-use online tool which provides instant access to our standards covering the technology and manufacturing sectors.
Joshua Dugdale?, Technical Manager at the MTA, reflects on the benefits of the service: “Standards are really important to our industry and the wider manufacturing sector. It has been a priority area for us over the last few years to aid our members in accessing relevant standards to help make them more competitive in the national and international marketplace. It has been great to see the rapid take up by our members of the BSOL system and we look forward to continue working closely with BSI and forming even greater collaboration going forward.”
